Neon is developed to be the perfect overstable approach disc. This type of disc is a staple in almost anyone's bag, and for a good reason: The low speed, low glide, high torque resistance and moderate overstability combines accuracy AND consistency - both for backhands and forehands, and both in low and high winds.
Neon target to further emphasize these qualities with unmatched torque resistance and extremely low glide, but without making the disc significantly more overstable than other discs in this category. This means that you sacrifice a bit of distance to get even better accuracy, consistency and wind resistance, but since distance is not what you are looking for with this type of disc, it is well worth the trade-off!
Throw it on a hyzer, and expect a moderate fade with minimal side drift.
Throw it flat and expect a mostly straight flight with a slight fade and very little skip.
Throw it on an anhyzer and expect a slow pan back to flat.
So how did we acheive these qualities?
Neon features a smooth, but conventional looking rim profile with a blunt nose and a pretty high parting line. The shoulder features a subtle thumb track that fades over to the flight plate, which has a significant puddle top. A reversed pop top - a pupple top!
The puddle top is the perfect recipe for low glide and high toque resistance. A domey disc will generally have higher lift force, and therefore more glide, causing the disc to fly farther and drift more to the sides, so a puddle top disc will do the exact opposite, causing the disc to drop to the ground more quickly, but also to be less sensitive to wind.
This is adventageous because it increases your margin of error in every aspect, whether it is release angles, arm speed, wind read or form/off axis torque.
... And how did we come up with this?
The science behind Neon's precision
To explain the real power of Neon let's take a look at it in the flight path simulator. In this video Asger explains why pro discgolfers tend to use spike hyzers whenever possible, and how this is related to the flight of Neon. He then simulates flight paths for our Bohrium distance driver and compares this to simulations of Neon. The result is quite stunning and highlights why the precision of Neon is something special.
